| The Sculpture Chain online workshop and pupils print out can help teachers of Key Stage 2 meet Curriculum Targets in the following ways: | |||
|
Exploring and developing ideas Through investigation of the everyday object in terms of form, function, material, scale, texture etc., pupils are encouraged to observe at first hand, to question what they see and think, and to establish a starting point from which to create art This information is prompted and collected via the pupils print-out, which acts as a guided sketch book sheet Investigating and making Pupils are encouraged to think carefully about the materials and processes they might use to transform their object into sculpture, and encouraged to nurture an awareness of how certain materials and processes are suited to certain outcomes Manipulation of materials and discovery of processes is enabled by opening up a wide range of possibilities to the pupils, getting them to brainstorm through methods, be free to invent new solutions for themselves. This sense of ownership and responsibility in what they are doing increases the pupils pride, confidence and interest which in turn leads to successful outcomes. Use of hand tools allows children to develop dexterity and hand eye coordination Through practical firsthand discovery pupils are encouraged to realise how the application of different methods and materials can lead to different outcomes, which will communicate different ideas, feelings or "personalities" Evaluating and developing work Pupils are encouraged to evaluate their actions, and outcomes, both personally through the pupils print-out, and as a group through class exploration of the sculpture end results. The pupils print out invites pupils to ask friends what they think of their sculpture, enabling pupils to see the responsibility they have (as make) in creating an object which makes another person think or feel a certain way, and also the ability they have in appraising another persons sculpture. This process also underlines that different people will have different (and equally valid) views of the same outcome Making sculpture in this way, enabled through the online workshop, in general: Links pupils familiarity and knowledge of ICT to art Encourages a practical understanding of three dimensional form, materials, scale, balance, weight, orientation, materials and processes. |
