Subject: Visual Libraries – Leave Your Mark
Our Visual Libraries project is now going into phase 2 and we will be
offering sketchbook workshops to Vision Impaired, Housebound and Prison
Library members. We are also pleased to announce that the Visual Libraries
brand has started in North Carolina, US with plans to roll out to more
libraries across the globe. We also plan to launch this project in empty
shops extending not only the project but libraries into the community.
50 Visual Library SketchBooks have been placed in Portsmouth Libraries and
each has its own theme ranging from; Portsmouth, My City, When I Open My
Eyes, Whilst I Was Waiting, Love, What’s in My Pocket and Memories. The
intention is for you to feel free to explore the Visual Library Books and
choose a theme that you like.
A Visual Library Book is whatever you want it to be, a sketchbook, a
journal, a diary, a notepad.
You can ‘Leave Your Mark’ in whatever way you want, ranging from
drawing, writing, sewing, adding photographs, markings, printing and
sticking. How you make your marks is entirely up to you. All we ask is that
you have fun with the different themes. Just borrow it on your library card
with other books and materials.
In association with The University of Portsmouth, Portsmouth City Council,
Rhodia, Copic and Seawhite.

“Crossing Boundaries” is a one-day conference organised by Nape and Canterbury Christ Church University to explore creating possibilities in primary classrooms.
The new National Curriculum for primary schools in England will present us with both opportunities and challenges, not just in our practice but also to our beliefs about the nature of teaching and learning. This one day conference aims to provide a forum for debating the issues and sharing our ideas about what we believe to be best practice in fostering children’s creative learning in times of change.
