Making a Layered Drawing
My current work is about exploring the idea of passing time, the cycle of the seasons, memory and loss; in essence, the human condition. I choose to express this in an abstract way rather than using figurative imagery, relying on mark making, gesture, pattern and colour.
When I make drawings, paintings or prints, I always work in layers, this enables me to show a certain ‘history’ and enigma within the work. In order to devise an exercise for making work that relates to my thinking, I would suggest trying the following:

I’m not sure what you mean by emulsion? Is that an acrylic medium like mat medium or gloss medium used in collage? Thanks Ruth

I’ll let Sue answer, but i took it to mean emulsion as in mat paint used for painting interior walls? Could be wrong!

Yes, Paula is right, I was using an unused matchpot of matt emulsion from the decorating store! I love it for its chalky qualities.
