Modroc (also spelled Mod Roc) is a plaster-impregnated bandage that can be used to create sculptures with learners of all ages. Younger children often enjoy its messy, hands-on nature, while older children and adults appreciate its versatility. In simple terms, Modroc starts as a dry bandage, is dipped in water, and then shaped by hand. As it dries, it hardens into a strong, rock-like form—hence the name: “mod” (mud) and “roc” (rock).
Modroc is used over an armature, which can be made in several ways depending on age, ability or purpose.
