Introducing Cross Hatching

By Sheila Ceccarelli

In this weeks Experimental Drawing Class, teenagers enjoyed concentrating on drawing spheres and cubes and trying to create the illusion of form in their drawings using cross hatching and rendering techniques.

After last week’s exploration into expression and communication with line, working on large scale drawings on paper on walls, A Big, Visual ConversationI felt it was important this week, to work very small and try to create a sense of ‘preciousness’ and ‘perfection’ in the drawn objects. Not my usual approach, but I was curious to see where the teenagers would take it.
