Drawing on Pebbles to Make Treasured Fossils

By Paula Briggs

Inspired by a collection of small pieces of flint, slate, brick and wood that we had collected on a walk, and her love of fossils, my daughter wanted to make her own collection by drawing on pebbles. I suggested that she try using some of the drawing materials that we had been using during our drawing workshops, but that this time she try them on the different surfaces to see how the materials respond.

The drawing materials we used were:

  • Soft pastels and chalks
  • Handwriting pens
  • Correction pens
  • Watercolours and a fine brush
  • Gouache paint
  • Large nails to be used as mark making tools.
