How I use my Sketchbook as a Mixed Media Artist by Morag Thomson Merriman

In the series ‘How I use my Sketchbook’, we are celebrating the different ways in which artists use their sketchbooks, spanning across a range of disciplines, to open up minds as to what a sketchbook is and can be, from the perspective of practicing artists.

In this video, AccessArt team member and mixed-media artist Morag Thomson Merriman shares with us how she experiments with materials in her sketchbooks, to capture moody and atmospheric landscapes and objects that tell a personal story.

Mo is a Scottish visual artist with a MA (Hons) degree in Fine Art. Her work is an intuitive response to the way memory is overlaid with historic or recent experiences of loss, absence and change, experimenting with ways to convey ‘presence’, or the sense of something being revealed or concealed. She is inspired by familial connections to the landscape and her inherited collection of earthy textured pottery ware. Small in scale, her work is mostly on paper, manipulated with mixed media to create subtle, richly textured surfaces. Mo is responsible for all social media marketing for AccessArt on Instagram and works part-time.
