Artist and educator Henry Ward presents 5 activities which he has used successfully to inspire creativity with pupils.
These ideas were shared with AccessArt as part of the 40 Artist Educator Project, funded by Arts Council England, aiming to highlight and celebrate artist-led teaching and facilitation.

This exciting resource offers students the opportunity to gain valuable experience in a range of activities to enable them to become more confident in their own creative skills and working practice. It includes a thought-provoking, group drawing exercise on how meaning can become lost or altered as the ‘message’ moves further from the source; a time critical exhibition challenge; a practical making project that has to be completed within a clear set of rules, which actually opens up numerous creative options for the student and illustrates the benefit of documenting thoughts and processes; and two exercises centered around the student’s ownership and management of their own studio space allocated within the classroom.
