Drawing with Objects by Melissa Pierce Murray

By Melissa Pierce Murray

Frequently I explore ideas by arranging or assembling objects to make compositions or maquettes.

With this workshop I brought in sets of objects- steel, glass, wood and stone, and spoke of the qualities of each, how they were fashioned, found, or collected.

The black lazer cut shards of steel and the long splinters of wood were offcuts from larger lengths of flat metal bars and wooden planks.

I collect the multicoloured pebbles while walking along beaches, and like to thinking of the geological and erosional processes that formed them.

I’ve recently been working with ice in my studio, and considered bringing ice cubes, but instead found clear glass ice cubes, square, smooth and transparent.
