During the final session of the summer term, at the AccessArt Art Lab for ages 10, 11 & 12, I decided it would be nice to try a shared project.
I had in mind we would create some kind of co-created vessels, part inspired by ceramics by Grayson Perry, and loosely based around a holiday theme as the summer holidays came closer, but I had no clear idea what the outcome would be.
What emmerged was a bizarre but strangely rewarding series of objects which somehow captured elements of all of our previous sessions this term (including making architecture with foamboard, drawing faceted gem stones & exploring the geometry of chickens). There were times during the session when I really did wonder what we were doing, and if it would work, and then right at the end the pieces came together, reminding me of the beautiful ways in which creativity works, if we can be open enough and take a few risks along the way.
