The AccessArt Enrichment Offer Strengthen Your School's Arts and Culture Enrichment Offer

The Department for Education’s Enrichment Framework recognises that every child should have access to a broad range of high-quality enrichment experiences, with Arts and Culture identified as one of the five key areas every school should provide. As a Subject Association for art we are pleased that the government recognises the value of Arts and Culture within the framework.

At the same time, we are aware schools already face pressure from budgets, skills shortages and lack of time. To help schools feel inspired, prepared and ready to deliver a high-quality enrichment offer in Arts & Culture, AccessArt has created the AccessArt Enrichment Offer.

Whether you are a local authority primary or secondary school, or part of a large Multi-Academy Trust, we can help you review your current offer, and inspire and enable you to develop new opportunities for your pupils.

Summary of the DfE Enrichment Framework

Why Enrichment?

The Department for Education states:

“We know that enrichment opportunities can help expand horizons, raise aspirations and improve engagement, and we want to ensure that these opportunities are available for all, not just the privileged few. The development of essential skills, including teamwork, problem solving and communication, can increase sense of belonging and contribute to greater wellbeing and improvements in attainment.

  • Enrichment should be a core part of school and college life.

  • It brings learning to life and re-engages children with education.

  • It should support broader development and connect to the curriculum.

  • It should strengthen links with families and the wider community.”

What does the DfE mean by Enrichment?

Enrichment in schools and colleges encompasses a wide range of activities and experiences that exist beyond the curriculum, either linked directly to the curriculum (co-curricular), or covering skills, knowledge and activities that work in addition to it (extra-curricular).

Enrichment can support children and young people with their personal development, allowing them to explore their interests, try new activities and have fun, alongside developing skills and knowledge that can help with transitions and future readiness.

The DfE Enrichment Framework focuses on five areas, one of which is:
Arts and Culture:

for example, taking part in and having live experience of music, art, dance, theatre, other expressive arts, visits to museums and galleries.

Enrichment may be delivered within timetabled lesson time or outside of it (for example, lunchtime, before or after school or college, weekend events). Enrichment activities may be delivered by school or college staff, or external providers, and can include peer leadership with support and guidance from staff.

The AccessArt Enrichment Offer

AccessArt believes enrichment is vital. Think of enrichment as opportunity – an opportunity to provide more holistic and human-centred experiences for your pupils, and an opportunity to reinvigorate and nurture a love of learning, alongside a love of teaching.

AccessArt has built its reputation by sharing engaging and relevant resources that help learners explore a rich diversity of materials, techniques, approaches and ideas, inspired by artists, craftspeople and designers. These resources and experiences can help you plan and deliver an outstanding enrichment offer tailored to your school community.
