CPD Recording: Museums and Schools as Creative Partners – The Fitzwilliam Museum and Elliot Foundation
In this session, we explored how working with museums and galleries can spark creative teaching and bring rich cultural experiences into the classroom.
Led by Dr. Kate Noble, Strategic Lead for Participatory and Practitioner Research at the Fitzwilliam Museum, and Anne Hopkins, Regional EYFS Lead for the Elliot Foundation, we explored a recent partnership between the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge and Early Years teachers across a Multi-Academy Trust. We considered how museums can support teachers’ professional learning, build confidence, inspire creative classroom practice, and help teachers make meaningful use of objects and artworks with their pupils.
We were also joined by teachers from the Elliot Trust, who shared their journeys from exploring the museum’s collections and objects and discovering new ideas and approaches, to teaching through first-hand experiences and bringing this learning back into the classroom. Speakers shared examples and reflections from the project, alongside practical ways to find inspiration in museum collections and resources, even when visiting in person is difficult due to cost or distance.
