CPD Recording: Why All Schools Need to Value the Arts

image_pdfimage_print

Aimed at Directors of Curriculum, Senior Leaders, Headteachers, Deputy Heads and Curriculum Leads, this CPD recording explores why the arts are essential to every school, and how purposeful leadership can create the conditions for creativity to thrive across the whole school community.

In this online session, we were joined by two leading experts in arts education. HMI Adam Vincent, Ofsted’s Subject Lead for Art and Design, explored the wide-ranging benefits of an arts-rich education and why it remains important for schools to prioritise the arts, even in the absence of subject deep dives.

Sally Bacon, Co-Chair of the Cultural Learning Alliance, then discussed the conditions that need to be in place in schools to create an environment in which the arts can truly flourish, while addressing some of the common barriers schools face. Sally also shared more about the CLA’s third annual ‘Report Card’, launched in May 2026.
