3D Making for the Primary Classroom: Practical and Sustainable Approaches.

Monday 1st June
5.00 pm – 7.00 pm (Via Zoom)

Free to AccessArt Members, £25 for non-members

Aimed at: Art Leads, KS1 and KS2 Classroom Teachers, Artist Educators, Home Educators.

In this two-hour practical session, we’ll explore how 3D making can support hands-on learning in the primary classroom. We’ll discuss how pupils can explore ideas, solve problems, and build resilience through direct, physical interaction with materials, creating work that exists in space, and is experienced from multiple viewpoints.

We’ll consider how this kind of making can be delivered in ways that are both practical and sustainable, considering limited budgets and the realities of everyday classroom practice.

This session will be formed of two one-hour practical workshops:

  • An assemblage/montage session using recycled materials, led by Susan Coles

  • A sculpture project led by Mandy Barrett, inspired by the work of Bruno Catalano and created using scrap materials

The pieces made during the session can be used as practical examples to support teaching and modelling in the classroom.

You’ll need some table space to work in when attending online, along with a small range of materials (a list will be sent one week before the session).

This event is free to AccessArt Members. The ticket price for Non-Members is £25.

This session will be recorded and available to AccessArt Members a few days after the event.

Images play a powerful role in shaping how children understand the world around them. Developing visual literacy supports pupils in interpreting, questioning and communicating meaning through what they see and create.

This session will explore how visual literacy can be embedded within the primary art curriculum from an early age, helping children to build confidence in looking, thinking and responding.

We will have the opportunity to engage with the work of artists and makers while exploring practical approaches to support classroom practice. We will also consider how discussions around images and artworks can develop oracy, supporting children to articulate ideas, intentions and meaning within their own creative work.

Subject specialists Susan Coles and Mandy Barrett will share a range of pedagogical approaches and practical examples to help you develop visual literacy meaningfully within your setting.

This event is free to AccessArt Members. The ticket price for Non-Members is £25.

This session will be recorded and available to AccessArt Members a few days after the event.
